Continued from Page 2How many films did Peter Lorre make with Sydney Greenstreet?

The scene in question is the Southside Tavern, where Bette Davis waits for her ex-fiancé George Brent. Playing the jukebox loudly, she annoys the customers – six men at the bar who are trying to listen to a boxing match over the radio. These screenshots illustrate the sequence.

Bette Davis sways to a tune on the jukebox, while the tavern’s patrons try to listen to the radio. The tables in the background are empty.

Realizing Brent has stood her up, Davis pays her bill and storms out, to the relief of the patrons and the barkeeper.

In the one-minute scene is an uncredited Walter Huston, playing the Southside Tavern’s barman, and likely cast in the cameo for good luck in his son John’s film – just as he had been in The Maltese Falcon.
